City band to perform at legion Friday

The Waterloo City Band will hold its first concert of the season on Friday at the American Legion Hall on State Highway 89. The legion will sell hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and brats from 4:30 p.m. until the concert begins at 7 p.m. There will also be French fries and onion rings. There will be a car show every Friday starting June 7, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Waterloo historical society to sell brats, hot dogs Saturday

The Waterloo Area Historical Society will host a brat and hot dog sale on Saturday, May 18 in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funds will be used to support and maintain the museum on East Polk Street. For more information, call 920-478-8015.

Chamber to beautify downtown Saturday

The Waterloo Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers to help plant flowers along North Monroe Street. Planting and mulching is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, starting at 9 a.m. Seven planting beds plan to be renovated. Waterloo residents are encouraged to stop by and lend a hand. The Waterloo Downtown Beautification Project is made possible by financial contributions from local area businesses.

Waterloo Fire & EMS Supports to hold pancake breakfast Sunday

The annual Waterloo Fire & EMS Supports pancake breakfast will be held Sunday, May 19 at the fire station. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the fire station, from a department member, or at Avestar Credit Union, F&M Bank, Neitzel Hardware or Piggly Wiggly.

Island Church Foundation to hold annual meeting Sunday

The Island Church Foundation annual meeting is scheduled for Sunday, May 19 at 3 p.m. in the building adjacent to the church on Blue Joint and Island Church roads. Current and new members are welcome.

Shoot Down Cancer set at gun club Sunday

The sixth annual Shoot Down Cancer fundraiser for the Relay For Life will be held Sunday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Waterloo Gun Club. There will be sporting clays, five bird merchandise shoots, optional Lewis class purse and 25 bird trap shooting. There will be a Chinese raffle, food, bake sale and 50/50 raffle. The event is sponsored by the Waterloo Gun Club.

Dementia-friendly network to meet Monday

Relay For Life roundup offered at Piggly Wiggly

The Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Waterloo will round up purchases May 21-27 for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. This year’s event is set for Aug. 2 at the Watertown High School track.

The Courier will hold office hours May 22 at the Karl Junginger Memorial Library from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and at the Marshall Community Library from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Community members can stop in and drop off news and press releases or visit with the managing editor.

Jazz in the Park will be held Wednesday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Waterloo Firemen’s Park Pavilion. The cost is $5 for a night of musical entertainment and refreshments. It is hosted by the Waterloo Music Department and the Waterloo Music Parents Organization.

Marshall library to host women’s suffrage program Wednesday

A program on Wisconsin Women’s Suffrage will be held at the Marshall Community Library on Wednesday, May 22 from 7 to 8 p.m. This year is the 100th anniversary of Wisconsin’s ratification of the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote. Author Bob Kann will present stories of the courage, perseverance and political savvy of Wisconsin women who fought to give women the right to vote. A pollinators and plants program will be held at the library on Wednesday, May 29 from 6 to 7 p.m. Many of the pollinators, such as bees and butterflies, are in danger. Eighty-seven percent of all flowering plants depend on them. There will be free seeds.
