ESCONDIDO

Bimbo Bakeries helps garden bloom

Bimbo Bakeries USA in Escondido recently donated $5,000 to help the Escondido Community Garden become more accessible, funding an asphalt pathway that gardeners in wheelchairs could use. The company also donated 10 composters to the garden, which is sponsored by the city of Escondido and has gardeners of many languages, abilities and ages. United Cerebral Palsy, Easter Seals, Community Interfaith and Salvation Army are among the groups that have benefited from access to the garden. But with mulch pathways, access was difficult for those using wheelchairs. The new asphalt path has also made the garden safer for those using walkers. For more about the community garden, call (760) 580-4390.
