Indiana 32 to be closed at bridge

DALEVILLE -- According to the Salem Township/Daleville Emergency Services Facebook page, Indiana 32 will be closed between Hilltop and Raintree for 25 days for bridge repair.

The best detour routes around the bridge repair are as follows.

From Anderson: Walnut Street, to Daleville Road, to 800W, to 400S, to Ind. 32.

From Muncie: 400S, to 800W, to Daleville Road (500S), to Walnut Street, to Ind. 32.

Toll road hike skips lawmakers

INDIANAPOLIS — A proposed fee increase on heavy-duty commercial vehicles that use the Indiana Toll Road was negotiated without legislative involvement and with considerable secrecy, according to some Indiana lawmakers.

The Indiana Toll Road Concession Company would give the state $1 billion over three years in exchange for the 35 percent toll increase under the proposal, The Journal Gazette reported. Gov. Eric Holcomb said he hopes to spend the funds on roads, broadband, trails and to attract new direct flight routes to the state's airports.

Mom pleads not guilty in fatal shooting

GARY — A northwestern Indiana woman has pleaded not guilty to neglect charges stemming from her 2-year-old daughter's shooting death.

Dashana Fowler, 22, of Gary entered her not guilty plea during a Monday court hearing. Folwer's daughter, Jayla Miller, died Sept. 4 after being shot in the head inside a home in Gary. Three other children were at the house during the shooting.

Chief: Body cameras a top goal

INDIANAPOLIS — The chief of police in Indianapolis says getting body cameras for his officers is a top goal.

Chief Bryan Roach told WRTV that there's a "trust issue" nationally with law enforcement and the cameras are seen as "one of those things to create transparency and a little more trust within the agency." They're already in place in various departments around the country.

Body recovered after canoe accident

EDINBURGH — Authorities have recovered the body of a 27-year-old man following a canoe accident in central Indiana.

The Bartholomew County coroner's office said the body of Siddharth Panicker was found Sunday near Edinburgh. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources reported that Panicker had been canoeing with friends. His death has been ruled an accidental drowning.
