Man arrested on outstanding warrant

A 23-year-old Dresden man is in custody after breaking his release conditions.

After being released from court in late May, Chatham-Kent police said the man was given several conditions to follow, including that he not communicate with a specific Dresden woman or be within 100 metres of her.

On Monday, the man attended the woman’s residence and attempted to speak with her, police said.

As the woman tried to leave, the man damaged her vehicle and grabbed her cell phone preventing her from calling the police. The woman drove to a family member’s home for help.

Police said the man fled on foot before police arrived, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The man was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with two counts of failing to comply, mischief over $5,000, theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

He was transported to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.

Chatham man arrested for impaired

A 52-year-old Chatham man is facing an impaired driving charge after being stopped by Chatham-Kent OPP on Highway 401 near Queen's Line on Monday night.

OPP said while speaking to the driver, the officer determined he had consumed alcohol and he was transported to the detachment for further tests.

This resulted in the man being charged with driving while ability impaired and drive motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in the blood.

The accused is to appear in court on July 27 to answer to the charge.

Man charged with failing to comply

A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged for failing to comply with court release conditions.

In late April, Chatham-Kent police said the man was given several conditions, including a daily curfew of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday, police located the man in the driveway of a residence on Park Avenue West in Chatham. He was arrested and charged with failing to comply.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman charged with being intoxicated in a public place

A 49-year-old woman has been arrested following a disturbance at a motel on Grand Avenue East in Chatham on Tuesday.

Upon responding to the call of a disturbance, Chatham-Kent police arrested the women in the parking lot for being intoxicated in a public place.

For her safety, she was transported to police headquarters to be released when sober.

Break and Enter in Chatham

Several electronics including a Bose speaker and Apple products were stolen during a break and enter in a home on Berry Street Tuesday evening in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said unknown suspects forced their way into the home sometime between noon and 8 p.m.
