House hopeful to address WCDC

The West Citrus Democratic Club willl meet Saturday, May 12, at Riviera Cantina, 1935 U.S. 19 Southeast, Crystal River.

The self-pay lunch begins at noon with the business meeting at 1 p.m.

Guest speaker will be Jim Henry, state representative candidate Florida House District 34.

Henry started his political involvement in 1994, after a career in journalism. He’s held several government positions including town coordinator in Templeton, Massachusetts, after which he entered the teaching profession in Maine. In Maine he volunteered for John Kerry’s campaign for president and was elected to the finance board in the town of Hollis. He has lived in Citrus County for the last eight years.

Trump GOP club to host speaker

The Citrus County President Trump Republican Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the Citrus County Board of Realtors building, 714 S. Scarboro Ave., Lecanto. The guest speaker will be Alex Newman, American journalist, consultant and lecturer who has done years of research on the “Deep State.”

River Keepers to host speaker

The Chassahowitzka River Keepers will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15. Kym Rouse Holzwart, a senior environmental scientist with the Southwest Florida Water Management District who is leading the Chassahowitzka River minimum flow re-evaluation effort, will speak about the new and completed Chassahowitzka River submerged aquatic vegetation surveys conducted in 2017 and 2018.

Workshop on irrigation set

Citrus County Utilities is offering a free Irrigation 101 workshop on Thursday,

May 17, from 1-4 p.m. The training offers the basics of operating an irrigation system in a Florida landscape. Determine how to operate the irrigation controller and how long to run each zone. Find out how much water to apply during summer months vs. winter. Discover simple maintenance tips to keep the system in check. Learn about our local soils and plant water needs.
