Four former MCAL swimmers of the year competed in the three-day Tennessee Invitational in Knoxville over the weekend.

Prep wrestling

Senior Spencer Dow (160 pounds) went 4-0 to help Redwood finish 1-3 in its annual duals tournament on Saturday in Larkspur.

Will Jackson (120), Murun Batjargal (170) and Rocco Allenstein (220) all finished 3-1 for the Giants, and Andrew Ji (106), Jaden Ramos (113), Jackson Walker (132) and Brandon Trahms (138) recorded two wins apiece.

Redwood’s top 10 wrestlers will compete in the Hamada Invitational at the La Costa Canyon Classic in San Diego next weekend.

“We battled hard as a mostly young team,” Redwood coach Lochlan McHale said. “Our losses were hard-fought but we got caught on fundamentals. We had lots of close matches that just didn’t go our way.

The foundation is there for the style of wrestling I want our program to be known for, we just need to work harder in the room.”

Former San Marin star quarterback Manny Wilkins and the Arizona State University football team will face No. 24 North Carolina State (8-4) in the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, on Dec. 29.

Wilkins has thrown for 2,918 yards with a 63.5 completion percentage this season, tossing 17 touchdowns to five interceptions. The junior has rushed for six touchdowns.

The Sun Devils (7-5) recently hired Herm Edwards to coach the team. The former NFL head coach and ESPN analyst will be introduced in a Monday press conference.
