Summer Comes On Strong

Posted on June 8, 2017 by Chris Bailey

Good Thursday to one and all. Our run of September rolls on for a few more days, but summertime is ready to surge in here for the weekend. This will bring the hottest air of the young season into our part of the world. With the heat will come an gradual increase in storms for next week.

Before we get to all that, let’s focus on what’s out there today. Highs will range from the mid and upper 70s west to the upper 60s and low 70s east. Clouds will continue to spin up and we are likely to see a few showers going up. The best chance will be across the east…

Friday looks much, much better with low 80s west and upper 70s east. Skies will stay mostly dry, but a storm may threaten far northern Kentucky by evening.

This sets the stage for a much warmer weekend as a big ridge of high pressure builds in across the southeast…

Highs by Sunday and Monday can hit 90 degrees, especially in the west. One thing to keep in mind, we have a very wet ground with green, lush vegetation. That’s something the models never take into consideration. Your weather apps and walking weather apps won’t either.

Humidity levels will soar, leading to an increased chance for storms going up. That really ramps up by the middle of next week as a trough rolls eastward into the Mississippi Valley…

That knocks the temps back down into the normal range, but the muggy air will continue. The setup after that is an interesting one, with a pipeline of moisture developing from the Gulf into the region…

The pattern I foresee taking shape is one that can produce flash flood producing thunderstorms. I’m not talking about every day type stuff, but I can see us getting into some trouble this summer.

Have a great day and take care.

September Feel Before A Summer Surge

Posted on June 7, 2017 by Chris Bailey

Good Wednesday, everyone. We have some awesome air controlling the weather across the bluegrass state of Kentucky. This September feel comes courtesy of a big upper low spinning across the eastern part of the country. Summer fans should hang tough, we have a nice blast of toasty temps for the weekend.

Highs today range from the mid 70s in the far west to upper 60s in the east. We will need to watch for isolated showers developing…

Kentucky Weather Center

As the upper low inches closer, we will see a slightly better chance for showers on Thursday…

Temps will again be well below normal around here.

The numbers will begin to climb on Friday and will really take off into the weekend. This will be courtesy of a ridge of high pressure across the southeast…

Kentucky Weather Center

Someone could see 90 by Sunday or Monday.

That same flow will bring an increase in moisture for early next week, this will interact with a trough digging into the Midwest…

Kentucky Weather Center

That action will spawn a rapid increase in showers and thunderstorms around here…

Temps will come down some during this time, but the humidity levels will be way up there.

A deeper trough will likely dig into the region later next week into the following weekend…

That’s a cooler and stormier look to the pattern.

Make it a great day and take care.

A September Feel Takes Over

Posted on June 6, 2017 by Chris Bailey

Good Tuesday to one and all. Our weather pattern is taking on the look and feel of September, and I’m not going to complain about that. Much cooler than normal temps are settling in, with a shower chance or two. If you’re missing summer, it should return this weekend.

In the short term, highs today are generally in the low and middle 70s with mainly dry weather. Things will change a bit into Wednesday with more clouds and the threat for a shower or two…

Kentucky Weather Center

This happens with an upper level low moving into the region. That pops a few more showers into Thursday, with the best chance in the east…

This setup brings MUCH cooler than normal air to the eastern half of the country. Check this out…

Highs for Wednesday and Thursday may struggle into the upper 60s and low 70s across central and eastern parts of the state.

Warmer air moves in this weekend with highs returning to the 80s. There’s a small storm chance as the warmer air moves back in.

Another front tries to drop in here early next week with more showers and storms. Some of the models continue to show something developing in the Gulf during this time…

That setup may knock out temps back down some by the middle and end of next week.

As I have mentioned, it’s going to be awfully hard for any one particular pattern to get established this summer. This is a progressive pattern that can feature frequent rain and storm chances. Eventually, the tropics are going to come to life with this setup and can have a direct impact on our weather. Keep that one in mind. ,winewine
