Orchestra League seeks student entries

The Oklahoma City Orchestra League hosts Music Competitions at the OCU Bass school of Music every year for students from all over the state. The deadline for entries is Jan. 23, 2017. The competitions will be Feb. 5, 2017. Total cash prizes to the winners are $11,100. The Oklahoma City Orchestra League plans a free winners concert at 2 p.m. Feb. 19, 2017 at OCU. Entry information is available at Competitions are for students age 18 and younger on piano, strings, classical guitar, woodwinds, percussion and harp.

Critics circle plans 'Searchers' screening

TULSA — At 1 p.m. Sunday, the nonprofit Circle Cinema and the Oklahoma Film Critics Circle present a special 60th anniversary screening of John Ford's cinematic masterpiece "The Searchers." Film critic and OFCC member Jeff Huston will provide a special introduction for the film and moderate a post-film panel discussion. Fellow OFCC members joining him on the panel to discuss the lasting legacy and impact of "The Searchers" will be Michael Smith (Tulsa World), Joe O'Shansky (Tulsa Voice), Colleen Thurston (Tulsa American Film Festival), and Adam Chitwood (collider.com). Circle Cinema is at 10 S Lewis in Tulsa.

Theater to premiere Christmas comedy

Carpenter Square Theatre celebrates the holidays during its 33rd season with the Oklahoma City premiere of “A Nice Family Christmas,” a comedy by Phil Olson. All performances Nov. 25-Dec. 17 are at the theater, located at 800 W Main in downtown Oklahoma City. “A Nice Family Christmas” brings a boisterous family together on Christmas Eve at Helen Lundeen's new apartment in a suburb of Minneapolis.
