'Filling the Boot' Saturday in Bedford

BEDFORD -- The Bedford Fire Department will be on the streets Saturday morning "Filling the Boot" for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the intersections of South and Great roads, and of Spring and Great roads.

All money collected by the Bedford Fire Department will be donated directly to MDA. MDA serves over 2,500 families in Massachusetts, some of whom live in Bedford and surrounding towns.

Anyone who is unable to make the boot drive but would like to donate, can do so by going to

French Mass Sun. at Ste. Marguerite

DRACUT -- Ste. Marguerite d'Youville Church will celebrate a French Mass on Sunday, Oct. 23, at noon. Following the Mass, juice, coffee, tea, milk, doughnuts, corton (pork spread) and French bread will be served.

Holiday fair, tours at Townsend church

TOWNSEND -- Townsend United Methodist Church will host its Annual Holiday Fair and Tours on Saturday, Nov. 19, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Coffee and doughnut time is at 9 a.m. A full lunch will be served mid-morning and throughout the day, with beef stew, hot dogs, corn chowder and desserts. This year's fair features baked goods, gifts, a cookie walk, silent auction and "Grandma's Attic" with gently-used household items, toys and books.

Another highlight is the historic tour, with a short climb up the stairs into the Bell Tower. Visitors will learn the history of the building which was built in 1770 and why it was moved twice. Tour guides will show the rough wooden pews that are still referred to as the "slave pews." Children and adults alike will be able to pull the heavy rope to ring the church bell. Be sure to bring your camera!.
